The Art of Craft
Cornish Spoons wooden spoons and cooking implements are available in many different styles and sizes, ranging from small beverage spoons, eating spoons and love spoons, through to scoops for the kitchen or bathroom and large serving spoons for the table.
Unlike mass produced products, each and every spoon or utensil has been individually crafted by hand from responsibly resourced timber (and locally-sourced wood wherever possible) in Cornwall, using traditional tools and finished with a food safe, water resistant, wax or oil coating.
All Cornish spoons are shaped from hardwood; including oak, beech, cherry, alder and sycamore. Sycamore has natural antiseptic properties, which inhibit the growth of bacteria and mould, so it’s the wood of choice for all kinds of culinary products and it is the traditional timber used to carve love spoons. The hardwood has a pale neutral grain and blends well with many colour schemes. A wide range of fruit and hedgerow trees also grow in the vicinity to our workshop which, when cut, continually surprise and delight with their range of texture, colour and grain. It’s one of the joys of working with wood – splitting a log to reveal, for the first time, the wonder within – and then planning how best to use it.
